Fri, May 20, 2005 - 3:33 PMMyself what I do is 2 hours of Japa from 4:30 am and 6:30am. I also do an artik in the morning to my archa vigraha. Through out the day I try to chant in my head. I also finding listing to Bhagavad Gita As It Is on audio while driving to be very nice. In most evening I'll go to the temple and engage in different activities.

Re: When do you meditate?
Fri, May 20, 2005 - 5:30 PMOkay so my normal sadhana is from 30minutes (short) to 1.5 (longer). I haven't been consistent because it depends on my schedule which is also not consistent. I don't like routine much either.
I've only recently learned this pattern for myself with sadhana. Sitting in silence is about 30 but it varies.
I've been learning my unique preferences as I go along. I wouldn't say that longer is better just the quality of the sit overall.
I pray during the day when needed.
I do kriya yoga through paramhansa yogananda which is similar to pranayama (technical). I do mantras before silent meditation.
regular yoga asanas(iyengar teacher) and energetic exercises prescribed by Yogananda help to focus the energy in the chakras. I attend group meditations and do it alone. I was doing it alone because I was able to move myself around better alone in my home. Group meditation I attend are systemized and completely silent no room for moving about.
My guru is Yogananda. I believe in non-duality reinforced by my study of the Tao and Buddhism, sri ramakrishna, and advaita vedanta.
Currently I'm reading The first four upanisads. I'm on the third. But I read and reflect. I'm not memorizing. I'm not good for memorizing. I read the Bhagavad Gita when I feel it call me. Krisna does call my name here and there. Sri Bagavatam I have it and have glanced over some pages. There's more.
Believe it or not I did not pass religions class at the university because I was still reading the first book we were assigned until the end of the class. Not a good student. But love to learn.
Jai Guru

Re: When do you meditate?
Fri, May 20, 2005 - 5:36 PMone more thing
the day is a meditation if you may, in whatever environment
The technique(s) need to fall away after doing it for a period of time. It is the flow and the devotion that keep it living inside.

Re: When do you meditate?
Fri, May 27, 2005 - 10:49 AMHi, I am new here. Thanks Nityananda for inviting me.
The time that I most naturally want to meditate is in the evening, partly because of my work schedule, but the problem I have is that I am if I quiet myself at that time I tend to fall asleep, and also my body is more worn down so I find it hard to get in a comfortable position and maintain it.
I have a lot of meditative moments during my day, when I feel I need some restorative energy or when I want to pause and appreciate the goodness in my life, or when I want to get into a calm and focused state of mind for something important. It is only when I try to meditate deeply without any specific purpose that I have these problems.
I guess I need to choose a different time of day when my body is not accustomed to sleeping, and maybe do some yoga first to get my body physically ready. I am challenged to find this time in my day but I think it is important and I want to do it more.
I will read up on the auspicious and inauspicious time intervals. Any other advice for me?
